The county seat is Tipapelan, which is located on Haverford Island.
As of 2019, its population is 48,357. It is the fourth-most populous county on Carraway Island, ahead of Lewis County. However due to the county's extremely rugged mountain terrain, it has a much more centralized population than Lewis County; over 95 percent of the county's population is centered in its largest city. If Tipapelan were to become an independent city, the population of Vassaras County would be 2,554, by far the least populous county on Carraway Island.
